During the 1993 treatment, archival coroplast backing boards were attached to the reverse of each of the six wings. Due to the lack of environmental control and as well as the town hall being closed, unused, and unheated for 18 months during COVID, the backing boards have warped and created a moisture pocket behind the canvas. Yellow-brown spots (foxing) are present on the reverse of the boards and the canvas. Black mold is present on the face of the wings along the horizontal and vertical strainer members where the backing board seal is broken. The plexiglass backing boards will have spacers between the plexi and strainers to prevent build-up of moisture; the transparency will help monitor a build-up of moisture on the reverse.
The use of plexiglass will now also show historical signatures from past performances held on the stage.
